Dr. Ezra Cates is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences at Clemson University in South Carolina. He completed his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2013 and additionally held a postdoctoral appointment at Yale University. He teaches courses at Clemson on water treatment engineering and municipal solid waste management. His research program focuses on physicochemical treatment processes with an emphasis on ultraviolet technologies, including UV-disinfection and fouling control, UVC and VUV advanced oxidation for wastewater and landfill leachate, development of photocatalytic materials, photocatalytic reactor designs, and destruction of poly/perfluoroalkyl substances. His projects have been funded by NSF, EPA, DOD-SERP, and NASA. Dr. Cates has published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers and is a recipient of an EPA STAR Early Career Award.
