Robert H. Jones, Ph.D., serves as Clemson University’s first Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, and provides leadership for the university’s undergraduate and graduate programs, academic support programs, research and public service activities. He earned a B.S. in Forest Management (1979), an M.S. in Forestry (1981) from Clemson University, and a Ph.D. in Forest Ecology (1986) from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. After a postdoc at the University of Georgia’s Savannah River Ecology Laboratory, he joined the School of Forestry at Auburn University, and then moved to Virginia Tech in 1995, becoming Head of the Department of Biological Sciences in 2002. He was Dean of the Eberly College of Arts and Science at West Virginia University for four years prior to joining Clemson. Dr. Jones has advised graduate students and conducted research in belowground ecology and forest regeneration, with 62 peer-reviewed publications, 18 graduate theses directed and $4.6 million in extramural grant funding as a principal or co-principal investigator. He has served on EPA and NSF review panels and on the editorial boards for three journals. Dr. Jones has taught study abroad, undergraduate and graduate courses in ecology, and has received five awards for teaching.
